Community Based Victim Assistance Program (CBVAP)

We offer Court Advocacy and assistance for immigrant and visible minority women and children who are in need of accessing the justice system. Women who are victims of sexual or physical abuse/assault, spousal assault, childhood abuse, stalking, hate crime or any other crimes, and children and youth who are victims of sexual or physical abuse, date rape, bullying, childhood abuse, stalking, hate crime and other violence can receive:

Assistance and orientation to the justice system on the following:

  • Police, crown file information
  • Victim impact statement
  • An overview of the Court system
  • Court case results
  • Victim's compensation

Emotional Support:

  • Someone to talk to
  • Support for the non-offending parents
  • Court and police, crown accompaniment
  • Assistance to the victim's family and to witnesses and non-offending family members

Liaison with other services
Referral to our bilingual/bicultural workers and to:

  • Emergency social services
  • Transition Houses
  • Community Agencies
  • Legal/social systems
