Volunteers Program

The Program is open to our clients and to everyone interested in working in a counselling agency environment. Volunteers support our agency by performing general office duties, getting involved in challenging projects such as supporting our staff in the organization of small discussion groups for immigrant women, or teaching survival English classes, offering Income Tax Clinics and other initiatives useful to our clients.

Volunteers enjoy great flexibility in their working hours, are encouraged to participate in our free workshops on women's issues and in our Leadership Training Program. They can receive Certificates of Appreciation and Recognition. A letter of reference is provided to those who donated 20 volunteer hours a month for three months.

However, volunteers do not have access to direct counselling to clients (women and children). They can work in a supportive role helping the Children's Program staff for the children's group counselling, e.g. preparing materials for the group activities, setting up the room and providing a good role model for the children.

Quotes from Participants in The Leadership Training Program:

"I learned to be more assertive and improve my self-esteem. Very educational and uplifting."

""I liked the sense of connection with others, feeling that "I am not alone."

"I learned that the healing power is within us and we can use various spiritual tools like meditation, yoga, prayer to access that power."

" I learned that is not the person we are angry at but their actions which make us angry; anger is not bad, how we deal with it is important; how anger happens and how I can deal with it better."

" I learned how to cope with many different situations in my daily life."
