Signs of violence

VLMFSS services are free and confidential.

If you or someone you know is experiencing these signs of violence it is important to seek support. These indicate an unhealthy or abusive relationship: 

Controlling behavior

Monitoring everything you do, everywhere you go, reading your text messages and or emails.

Emotional or psychological abuse

Making you feel less than, using anger to keep you afraid. 

Verbal abuse

Insults, yelling, threatening behavior. 

Technology based violence

Online stalking, posting private photos of you without your permission, spreading gossip or rumors about you online. 

Financial abuse

Controls money and your access to money and resources. 

Isolation

Tries to make you feel completely alone and with no support of others such as your family, friends, or colleagues. Makes you feel that they are the only one you can depend on.

Physical abuse

Physical harm to your body such as punching, kicking, etc. Use of weapons to cause physical harm, restraining or locking you up in a room or closed space, denying you your basic needs such as sleep, food, shelter. 

Sexual violence

Assaults you sexually, manipulates you into having unwanted sex
